The Engineering Challenge Behind 3467

Creating 3467 was a true engineering accomplishment. Our goal was to produce a soft, flexible film (low Shore hardness) while achieving a sharp, deep emboss pattern. These two requirements are usually at odds – a softer plastic tends to flow too freely during calendaring, making crisp embossing difficult.

To overcome this, we worked closely with embossing and polymer specialists to refine the compound. Once the film met our expectations, another challenge emerged: plasticizer migration. Plasticizers make plastics flexible, but they can also prevent adhesives from bonding properly.

Through extensive testing and formulation adjustments – along with a few trade secrets – we solved this issue. The result is a film that retains flexibility and softness while ensuring the adhesive forms a strong, lasting bond.
