Removing anti-slip tape doesn’t have to be a hassle. At Heskins, we’ll walk you through the most effective method to get the job done right.

Our anti-slip tapes are built to last—with heavy-duty adhesives that bond securely to surfaces. While this makes them incredibly durable, it can also make removal a bit challenging. Fortunately, we’ve got the perfect solution!

What You’ll Need:

  • Heat gun
  • Scraper tool (a putty knife works great)
  • Heat-resistant gloves
  • Optional: H3508 Surface Cleaner

Step 1 – Apply Heat

Put on your heat-resistant gloves before beginning. Aim the heat gun a few inches from the anti-slip tape and warm the area. This helps soften the adhesive underneath. A surface temperature of around 140–160°F (60–70°C) is ideal.

Caution: Heat guns get extremely hot—use them carefully and never leave them unattended.

Step 2 – Scrape and Pull

Once the adhesive has softened, gently lift one edge of the tape using your scraper. Then, using the slow pull method, peel back the tape while scraping underneath. If any section remains stubborn, reheat and repeat.

What’s the Slow Pull Method?

Instead of yanking the tape off quickly (which often leaves residue or breaks the tape), slowly pull it back while applying steady tension. This method ensures:

  • More adhesive comes off with the tape

  • Fewer small pieces get left behind

  • Cleaner removal overall

How to Remove Leftover Adhesive

Once the tape is gone, you’ll probably notice some adhesive residue. Remove it right away—it’s much easier now than later!

Here’s how:

  1. Soak two cloths in hot water (not boiling).

  2. Place the wet cloths over the sticky area and let them sit for 3–5 minutes.

  3. Use your scraper to remove the softened adhesive.

For stubborn spots, repeat the process or use Heskins H3508 Surface Cleaner to speed things up.

Why Remove or Replace Anti-Slip Tape?

You may need to remove floor tape when:

  • It’s worn down and no longer slip-resistant

  • Edges are lifting or sections are damaged

  • You’re refreshing or redesigning the workspace

Replacing damaged or old anti-slip strips helps maintain compliance and safety.

Is Semi-Permanent Anti-Slip Tape a Thing?

Yes! If you need temporary slip resistance—such as for events, pop-up shops, or temporary work sites—Heskins offers anti-slip tape ideal for semi-permanent installations. It’s easy to apply, safe, and simple to remove when the job is done.
