At Heskins, we know that applying anti-slip tape to low energy surfaces can be tricky. To overcome this problem, we have created our keying agent, a significant advancement in adhesive technology. This guide will show you how to use our keying agent and apply anti-slip products to low-energy surfaces.

What You Will Need:

  • Non-Slip Tape
  • IPA Surface Cleaner
  • Gloves
  • Cloth
  • Keying Agent
  • Seam Roller
  • Edge Fix

Make sure you have the correct equipment on hand to avoid issues during application.

Step 1 – Clean the Surface With IPA Cleaner

Wear gloves, as some chemicals can be harsh and unsafe on bare skin. Use IPA surface cleaner and a dry cloth to wipe down the low energy surface, as shown in the image. This step will help prolong the life of the adhesive by removing all potential contaminants that could affect the tape’s bond.

Step 2 – Apply a Small Amount of Keying Agent

Apply Heskins keying agent to the low-energy surface. Wipe a small amount onto the surface using a cloth. This step ensures the surface is ready for applying the anti-slip tape.

Step 3 – Peel Off the Adhesive Backing Liner

As shown in the image, peel off the anti-slip tape’s backing liner and place it firmly onto the low energy surface. It is crucial to apply firm, even pressure on the tape to improve the bond.

Step 4 – Use a Seam Roller to Remove Air Bubbles

Use a seam roller to remove any air bubbles that may have formed underneath the tape. This step prolongs the life of Heskins anti-slip tape. If air bubbles aren’t removed, they can cause creases in the material over time and edge lift. Using a seam roller ensures Heskins anti-slip tape lays perfectly flat and the adhesive layer strongly connects with the low-energy surface.

Step 5 – Seal the Edges with Edge Sealant

This is the final step when applying anti-slip tape on low-energy surfaces. For this step, you will need Heskins Edge Fix. Begin applying it to each edge of the tape, as shown, ensuring it’s a consistent line and you’re not using too much. Edge fix helps extend the life of the non-slip tape by acting as a glue to keep the edges secured to the surface, preventing water or dirt from getting underneath the anti-slip tape.

What is Heskins Keying Agent?

The Keying Agent is a Heskins solution for improving adhesion between low-energy surfaces and adhesive tape. Keying agents increase the effectiveness of Heskins anti-slip solutions on low-energy surfaces such as certain plastics.
