Grip tape is Heskins pride and joy. It is the product that we are best known for, and it has been at the heart of the company since our inception in 1997. We are just as proud of the sheer range of anti-slip tapes we supply, best suited for different industries, environments, and aesthetic preferences. Our wide range of non-slip tapes comes at the cost of potentially confusing our customers, and honestly sometimes ourselves. In this blog post, we have compiled some of the most frequently asked questions about our anti-slip tape so that you may browse more confidently.

What do you use grip tape for?

Grip tape can be used for a variety of purposes, but most importantly, it is used for preventing slips, trips, and falls. Applying it to areas where such hazards have a high likelihood of occurring can help prevent a lot of accidents, meaning everyone is safer and you don’t have to worry about the paperwork.

Is grip tape just sandpaper?

No, abrasive tape is not just sandpaper. Although sandpaper and abrasive tape have similar properties such as coarseness, the purpose of this tape is to prevent slips and can come in many different degrees of coarseness, colours, and sizes. Sandpaper is typically used to prepare surfaces for painting and finishes.

Is grip tape necessary?

If you want to ensure a safe environment where slipping could cause serious bodily harm such as in kitchens or warehouses, then grippy anti-slip tape is necessary for facilitating a safe, slip-free environment.

Does grip tape wear off?

Like all products, anti-slip tape has a shelf life. However, with the right application, maintenance, and choosing the right fit for the job, your non-slip tape can last for years.

What is grip tape made out of?

Abrasive tape is made using Aluminium Oxide which is responsible for the coarseness of the tape. With a similar hardness on the MOHs scale to diamond, it’s a no-brainer why Aluminium Oxide is our choice for a durable material. The adhesive is made out of Pressure Sensitive Adhesives, or PSAs for short. We use a solvent based acrylic that allows for more crosslinking, which means increased chemical resistance and overall improved adhesive strength.

How long does Grip Tape last?

With the right application, maintenance, and TLC, your anti-slip tape can last for years.

Can grip tape get wet?

Yes and no. Anti-slip tapes can have differing thresholds for exposure to water and how it may affect performance. It is important that you check our range of non-slip tapes and make sure you have found the right fit for the job. AquaSafe, for example, is great for the edges of pools and baths, but it is important to know that even AquaSafe requires the surface to be dry and clean for correct application.
