What is Galvanic corrosion?
Galvanic corrosion, also known as bimetallic corrosion, is an electrochemical process where one metal corrodes in preference to another metal that it is in contact with through an electrolyte. Galvanic corrosion occurs when metals with different electrode potentials are in contact, in an electrolyte, due to one acting as an anode, and the other as a cathode. The result is that one metal will corrode faster than normal (anode), the other will be completely inhibited (cathode).
Ways to prevent Galvanic corrosion
There are different ways to prevent Galvanic corrosion.
Heskins® focus is on insulation, that is, breaking the electrical connection by insulating the two metals from each other.
Dielectric Strength
Dielectric Strength measures the electric strength of insulating materials at various power frequencies. It is an indicator of how good an insulator a material is. It is measured in Volts per unit thickness (kV/mm). The higher the value, the more electrically insulating a material is.
Heskins® Corrosion Protection tape
In response to customer demand, Heskins® are offering 3453 corrosion protection tape to act as an insulator between two metals which would otherwise be in direct contact. Heskins® 3453 Corrosion Protection tape is a specially produced plastic self-adhesive tape designed to form an insulating barrier between two metals and prevent Galvanic corrosion. It is a perfect solution when bringing two metals such as aluminum and steel together, and the adhesive backing helps the application process, ensuring a flat, corrosion-resistant surface which your other metal can be applied to, making it an efficient and cost-effective application.
The quoted dielectric strength of Heskins® Corrosion Protection tape is 20kV/mm.

3453 anti corrosion tape is available in rolls, sheets and die-cuts, of which can be combined to allow you to get the right size required. Rolls and sheets can be shipped immediately, but with the exception of certain die-cuts, dependent on order quantity we can produce specific die-cut shapes for your needs.
